I’ve spent a lifetime asking two fundamental questions:

• Why do we think and behave the way we do?
  and
• What enables people to live happier, more meaningful, and more connected lives?

Those questions eventually became the foundation of the Awakening the Genie Within trilogy.

I studied physics and spent much of my professional career in the nuclear power industry, working at facilities across North America. That work demanded disciplined thinking, analytical problem-solving, and a deep respect for the scientific principles that govern the physical world.

I also served in the Canadian Army, initially in The Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada and subsequently in The Royal 22nd Regiment (Van Doos). Here, I learned lessons about leadership, teamwork, and personal responsibility that have stayed with me throughout my life and strongly influenced my writing. Over the years, I owned and managed several businesses, giving me firsthand experience with organizational culture, communication, and the challenges of helping people work together effectively.

As rewarding as those experiences were, my greatest fascination has always extended beyond technology and engineering. I became increasingly interested in the invisible forces that shape our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. Over several decades, I immersed myself in the study of psychology, philosophy, spirituality, human values, and personal development, searching for principles that could help explain both humanity’s remarkable achievements and its persistent struggles.

The Resilience of the Human Spirit

My understanding has come not only from study, but also from life’s personal challenges. Caring for my wife through Alzheimer’s disease gave me a profound appreciation for love, compassion, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. Raising a daughter with Down syndrome has reminded me every day of the importance of acceptance, patience, and recognizing the inherent worth of every individual.

These experiences reinforced my conviction that our greatest fulfillment comes not from external success alone, but from the quality of our relationships and our connection with something greater than ourselves.

My Author Journey

The Awakening the Genie Within trilogy represents the culmination of more than five decades of observation, reflection, and practical experience. Rather than seeing science and spirituality as opposing perspectives, I believe they complement one another and together help us better understand ourselves and the world we share. My work combines scientific reasoning, practical tools, and spiritual reflection to encourage greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, stronger organizations, and a deeper appreciation of our interconnectedness.

Now in my early eighties, I continue to write, speak, and refine these ideas in the hope of leaving a meaningful legacy for future generations. Through my books, I invite readers to look beyond the limitations of the ego, reconnect with their deeper nature, and discover the extraordinary potential that lies within every human being.
